A lot of people think that being happy is a choice. I remember when I first started suffering from depression people told me I could chose to be happy and just stop being unhappy. Even today when I'm suffering with a bout of depression my friends tell me to just "get over it" because I can chose to be happy if I want. Personally I WANT to be happy. If I could just chose to be happy I would be happy.
I do believe it's possible to focus on the positive to help fight depression, but depression is a chemical imbalance not a state of mind. It's not like you can just wish your serotonin levels higher.
