I have actually argued this topic with my girlfriend. She believes that in the future capitalism would be obsolete and that the world would no longer need the power of money. Everyone would be equal and that everyone would be working for the good of humanity. The bright side of her argument is that poverty and hunger would be eliminated because the resources would be equally distributed. This would actually be a very ideal scenario if this would happen, but I always believe that this is actually an impossible scenario.
There could never be a possibility of total equality among people. There will always be leaders and followers, have and the have not, intelligent and the not so gifted, beautiful and ugly. Even if we were to equally distribute all the resources in the world in a couple of months there will always be a few group of people who will end up with a large chunk of it. Their will always be a few people who strive harder and have. If given the choice would you rather live in a world where everyone is equal? For me I would still prefer to live a life where everyone is different. Where people have the equal opportunity to be successful but at the same time have different outcome in their lives. I would rather choose the path where you have to strive in order to be successful and be rewarded than to be handed something that you may or may not deserve. Its the desire for something better that will always be the driving force of people.
If things will be given to you without any effort a lot of people will become lazy and humanities advancement would slowly grind to a halt. So i prefer competition and advancement compared to total equality.
